Hello all,
I am trying to find the link about the person who orders things from the FL Lowes and has them shipped to STT.
We are making our final plans to move on Oct 25 and would like to stop in the Lowes there and order all the things we think we will want and have them shipped instead of waiting to see what MAY be available at the time at Home Depot in STT.
23 days and counting. Just finished getting the reservation with Managed Freight to ship our Jeep and have eveything set up to have the electric turned on in our home and also Red Hook Mail Services have been notified of our arrival so they will know when we will be there to pick up the boxes....great people there.
WAPA woes...yes pricing is horrible, but if you EVER need something taken care of in a timely, professional manner call WAPA and speak to Ms. Joseph...she is on the ball and knows what she is doing and makes sure you get what you need when you need it....she is so special we ever take her flowers!!
I have been reading this board for years to prepare for our move and I can't say enough about all of you and all the help this board has been in our transistion to Island life.
But....if you would like to give me some last words of wisdom and some last minute pointers that may refresh my mind on all that I have read, just incase the old mind forgets something, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also....if you shipped something you figured you needed and didn't or didn't ship something you wish you would have I would love to hear that also.
Until we meet....
God Bless and Fins Up..

Hi Kim,

What kind of info do you need re. Lowes? If it is shipping perhaps I can point you in the right direction and give you a few tips. I receive shipments regularly from Miami.

The Lowes nearest VI Cargo's location in Medley Fl. will deliver to VI Cargo who will then forward it on to STX. I would guess that there are similar arrangements to service the STT market. Check with the freight forwarders that service STT and see who they recommend.

Thanks Jim that is exactly what I wanted to know. So do I go to Lowe's in Medley and have them deliever to VI Cargo which I do know ships to STT or contact VI Cargo first? I had read somewhere on this board where it was cheaper to do that than to purchase it from Home Depot on STT. Do you know if that is true?
Thanks
Kim

I don't know for sure, but in either case someone is paying for the ocean freight. If you ship by VI Cargo the cost is approximately $3.50 per cubic foot because you are shipping less than a container load. Home Depot is probably getting a better freight rate because they are shipping full containers. My opinion is buy from Lowes if they have the items in stock that you want.

Home Depot doesn't always have everything one needs. If shipping to STT best thing is have Lowe's deliver directly to to Tropical Shipping-Medley Fl. in your name with St. Thomas as final destination. You can call Tropical ahead of time and set up everything. There great to work with. I have a direct email for those handling cargo to STT if you need it. Just PM me.

If you purchase stuff and have it shipped to one of the freight forwarders in FL, you must also pay FL sales tax regardless of final destination. This adds several percent to your total cost that is often overlooked. If the STT Home Depot has what you need, use them.
