Hey all, so I have a friend living in st johns and he is nice enough to put me up for a bit while I get on my feet-I was just looking for a head start on the job front. He's doing so much I hate to ask for his assistance on this too, basically I'm looking for any and all websites with job classifieds or even if anybody knows a place with alot of turnover. I'm looking to bartend first but would settle for being a server. I literally have everything I own except my clothes, iPod, and records on eBay. I'm moving down with two grand and no car so the sooner I get employed the better. I'm a very hard worker and love people, I could bartend all day everyday and be completely content, I like fun is the way I describe myself. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance... Michael

First thing you need to know is that St Johns is in Antigua. Is that where or St John. Virgin Islands? This is a good place to start if it is St John. There is lots of advice here. Just read through the posts and there is even apart with moving stories I don't think $2000 is enough to move anywhere let alone St John!

As is always mentioned whenever someone questions moving here without a job, it's nearly impossible to find one until you're actually here and face-to-face with someone doing the hiring. The Virgin Islands are a very transient place, and employers want to know that you're here to stay before making any job offers. Also, what are you planning on doing for a car? I agree with Ronnie that $2,000 will probably not be enough, even with free rent for a while. Good luck!

Lisa

I am guessing the screen name means New Jersey bar tender -- if so it may be a better plan to work a busy NJ Shore bar gig for the summer and save every penny - you can then arrive in the VI in Oct - at the start of our season with a lot more money and a much better chance of success than coming at the start of summer, with slow and storm season approaching. Just a thought.

hey. i'm doing the same thing you are but st. thomas instead. i get why you want to go. all i can say is i'm doing it with 9500 and still pretty nervous. have you ever been there before? i hope so, so you won't be surprised by the size of it. nothing is more beautiful though, but i couldn't make it with 2 grand for 5 months. what are you going to do about a car?

Jerzbarkeep: If you're going to work and live in or very near Cruz Bay STJ, you won't need a car (will he?). You can walk to everything in town and take a cheap safari taxi to the beaches.

Pretty solid advice. A good portion of the restaurants close in September/October.
