Well, we have set up our home in red hook on st thomas and now all our family and friends are wanting to come and visit. Our studio apt is too small for visitors, so where can they stay? Anyone know of some cheeper hotels/b&bs/rentals in our area? The bigger resorts are wanting between 2 or 3 hundred per night, way out of our price range. Any info will help, Thanks , RJ

-You could check out Sea Horse Cottages on Ridge Rd. in Nazareth. 775-9231. I don't know anyone who has stayed there though. Or just have your guests come off season.

I know from checking last night that you can use travelocity and book flights + hotels and get some really good rates on decent hotels...

(Just my 2 cents)!

I can't wait until I can post this topic in a couple of years!!! Congratulations!

A friend of mine owns a one bedroom at Sapphire Village that rents for less than $200 a night. It is real nice has a sleeper sofa plus a queen in the bedroom. Washer/Dryer and full kitchen. Here is her web page.

Tell Shelba Jay sent you. I have personally stayed in it and its as nice as the pictures.

Trade: You simply MUST come out east to visit! Sea Horse Cottages has been closed for quite some time. Now it is mostly EDC offices and some other businesses, but a few long-term rentals. The owners did get approval for developing the last pristine land on Nazareth Bay- called Dolphin Cove. You can Google it to see what they are planning. No word on when the tree devastation will occur. I only hope that the housing slowdown will also slow them down.

Off my soap box...

RJ: Check the Island Trader. There are some people who advertise exactly what you are looking for- rooms for visitors of residents.

I went to the East End last year. Do I have to go again? There are some really bad singers out there. 🙂

There is a place called Captain's Quarters. Don't know the number. It is reasonable. Also try Pirate's Cove.

OH KIDS,KIDS KIDS, Its your mother! How about a queen size aero bed? It costs about $130.00 and can be used over and over. It can be deflated daily and stored in the closet. It only takes a minute to inflate and its " bed height " that regular size queen sheets fit. Would your mother put you in a cheap hotel away from her all alone not knowing anybody in a new and strange area. As far as your friends they can dig into their pockets.

Lizard I am giggling. My youngest daughter is a ballerina and was living in Manhattan. We were coming up to visit and her and boyfriend were living in a studio. They made hotel suggestions and I bought an areo bed and camped out on the floor in front of the TV. Daughter was fine with me, hubby and our new baby but boyfriend couldn't cope. Oh well.

dougtamjj,
I have one son, three daughters, three Grandchildren (2 girls and a boy), one son -in-law , one daughter -in-law and two boyfriends subject to change each year. During the holidays they all come down to STX and stay with us (me and my wife of 40 years) or my wife and I. We have a three bedroom/ three bath condo and three aero queen sized beds and one service dog. As the family started to get larger with Grandchildren, I said I was going to get a couple of rooms at Hotel on the Cay for the overflow, they (the kids) all got mad and said they would rather not come if they couldn't stay at the condo together. The Holidays are the best times and days in my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Mom in a studio with a couple for a week or more????????????? Difficult. Try www.condelmar.com. This is a studio at Sapphire Hill Village. I have a short term rental in Frenchman's Bay which might be a little far but the studio is only $90/night. Look at www.stthomasvirginisland.com

Jeez, Ronnie! Pick up Trade and come on out here. Pirate's Cove has been closed for a while (remodeling), and I believe that they are not renting out at Captain's Quarters either. Trade, the only singing out here is at the manager's party at Secret Harbour. 😉 And, oh, yeah, the Fiddler at Latitude!

EE I was told the bar was closed and not the rooms for rent. Who knows. I never knew where Captain's Quarters was in the first place. I just kept hearing about it. Oh well.

Ronaldo: I heard that he was turning Pirate's Cove into a "boutique hotel" and was re-doing the rooms. It sure doesn't look like there is any activity over there.

Captain's Quarters: When you turn off the main road toward Secret Harbour, there is a little road off to the right. It used to be hidden, but now that they are building the "fire station" at the corner, you can see the road. CQ is/was at the very end.

Thanks Lizard for the suggestion----and if the son sleeps on that air mattress out on the deck it could work! Certainly would save me $$. He's used to us taking over the bathroom ;-). But, really, know of any place that can be rented for a week? We all want to be HAPPY to see each other! And still loving each other when we leave. Much thanks,

Actually all of those hotels are downtown and near the airport, nowhere near Red Hook. They can check the Island Trader tomorrow. There is usually an ad in there that says something like "off island visitors" or "too much company" or whatever, and I think that is near RH. What about Billd's place. That's very close.

Juanita,
The three island categories are Nice, Almost Nice, Not so Nice, I think these three fall in the nice category at a reasonable price for off season. They are something to work with and compare to others.

Juanita, That's a great idea! But, still looking for a place to rent for a week. One that gives a discount for weekly rentals and is close in to Red Hook. We'll be walking for the most part. Taxis now and then. I miss my son!! So, all your help is greatly appreciated.
