Hi everyone. We just moved to St. Croix (husband, 6 kids and myself). Flew Spirit Air to St. Tomas first. Scheduled flight and space for cat 3 months in advance. However, once we boarded the plane an attendant decided that our cat and another man's tiny dog could not fly on this particular flight! and made us leave her in Chicago and find a helping soul to pick her up and keep her until different arrangements could be made. We are dealing with the airline, but now need to find someone that is flying either milwaukee or Chicago to either st croix or st Thomas. My question is...is there anyone flying from either of these cities to the islands in the near future that wouldn't mind carrying our cat along?

We would really appreciate any help and/or advice on a shipping company for pets. The ones that I have found are very expensive

Thanks,

Rox

Rox,
Sorry, I'm not going to be flying, but I sure hope someone can help you out. Our animal shelter has a program where people take shelter animals off island when they go. This is hardly the same situation, but if you check with the shelter in Chicago or Milwaukee, maybe they will have some advice. Just a wild-card thought.

How can Spirit justify that policy? I know all the airlines have rules about how many pets, but that's why you made the reservation!

Good luck!

Yikes, sorry about your cat. I can't help.

I do have a question about Spirit Air. How was it? Was is the difference in service classes? Is it just bigger seats up front?

Wish I could help you with your family member. Thank you for answering my questions about Spirit Air.

You need to try and get her on a cargo plane, then she doesn't need to travel with a human, although it may be already too hot for the airlines to allow any pet to fly. If its not American Airlines have cargo planes that fly into stt. If you can get her into stt you can bring her over easily on the ferry.

Try the travel msg board - link at top of this page. There you will find people coming down for sure. Best of luck.

Spirit Air is fine, it is a low cost airline. The front 3 rows are bigger seats 4 rather than 6. We have flown it quite a bit and have not had any problems until they kicked our cat off! However, if your days of travel are not set in stone you can get one way tickets for $145 including taxes!

Hope this helps

I was unclear from the posts. Is your cat staying with someone now? If not I might be able to help find a temp home? We already have one or I would offer myself. We are in Milwaukee and I have been shuttling our kids back and forth to Six Flags about once a week. Ohare is not too much farther so I could offer to shuttle from here to there in any direction fairly flexibly if that helps in anyway. Wish I was heading down (you know you've got it bad when DIF sets in even during the summer) then I could help more but it's looking like October or more likely February for us.

Happy to help if I can, good luck

Thanks so much, everyone has been so supportive and helpful.. Right now she is at a friend's house. However, if that needs to changed I may contact you. We are currently waiting for Spirit Air to return our phone calls! We are hoping that they will help to rectify the mess that they created. However, we can't wait forever and will give them another day or two and then make a different plan. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks again for all of the support!

Just an update, Noki the cat is still in Wisconsin. I am talking with a lady that is a friend of an acquaintance that may be bringing her next Monday!

As far a Spirit Air goes, I do not recommend trying to fly pets with you. Their costomer service etc. leaves a little to be desired!

Thanks again for all of your support...

Noki is finally home! I met someone on island and was relaying the story of how our cat was kicked off of the Spirit flight as we moved. She said that she had a cousin coming down...before I knew it we had emailed a couple of times and this wonderful woman that was flying here with her 2 small boys also brought our cat!

Thanks again for all of your concern, everyone. We have met the best people since we have moved!
