I heard on the radio today about this new burger place in Red Hook. I didn't catch the name and I was wondering if anyone knows about this place and if it's any good. I guess it's where Burrito Bay used to be.

The Tap and Still. Have only heard good things. Hooman Pedram, former manage of Fat Turtle, has it.

That place was crazy jumpin even early tonite, when everyone else was 25% full. Didn't go in to try it -- it felt like a college and 20's bar scene and we've got a young one, so didn't seem like it was for us. Definitely appeared to be popular!

Been there twice, love it. Reasonably priced, unlimited free toppings, and good food. Will eat there again.

Went there today for lunch. Got a double burger with various toppings and fries. Absolutely delicious. Will be going back for sure.

So what do they have besides burgers, and how do they compare to Shipwreck?

What about the fries/sides?

More details, please! Thanks!

Menu was pretty small. They had burgers, bacon burgers, veggie sandwich, 1 or 2 other sandwiches I forget what they were, wings, fries, and some kind of cake for desert. Maybe a couple other things I'm forgetting. Lots of booze and different beers, including BEER ON TAP.

The burger comes as 1/4 lb or double 1/4 lb and was 1000X tastier than Shipwreck's IMO, but not as big. The fries were awesome as well.

Thanks! I was never impressed with Shipwreck, and as long as it includes fries, I'll give it a try. Are they open for lunch, because I'm seldom on the East End for dinner.

Yes, I tend to substitute the P for a T in Shipwreck.

They are open 11am to midnight I think, so yes for lunch.

Thanks! Maybe I'll go this week. Haven't had a good burger in a while. Do they have WiFi? Shipwreck does have good WiFi!

My friends have all been and say the burgers are amazing. I'll have to judge for myself as I'm a hull bay black and blue burger girl. I heard a it's also more of a younger crowd - good to see good reviews.

I finally got to Tap and Still today, and was not impressed. Won't go back.

I want flame broiled burgers when I order out, and these are cooked on a griddle so no grilled taste. They also don't ask how you want it cooked, so all burgers are well done. The buns are the best part.

They also don't do a good job of selling their beers. I would have tried something new if they had taken the time to educate me about the many beers they have.

I also didn't feel comfortable about how they handled the check which I was paying by credit card. Wouldn't recommend.

A&A, are the Hull Bay burgers flamed or fried? Do they come with fries? Have never eaten there.

Yep they come with fries - really good ones actually! They are cooked on a grill - like a BBQ grill - literally that's what they use in the kitchen lol. I've not been to the tap and still yet but so far Hull bay blue burger is my favorite on island. Med rare with that big scoop of blue cheese, they always cook it perfectly to temp too. Yum! I just love the non pretentious vibe of hull. I'm usually there in my bikini bottoms and a rash guard just out of the water and I don't get any dirty looks lol.

I agree with isl3985 - I don't care how good the wifi is at shipwreck - that place is a rip off. Sorry.

Ps. Hull bay hideaway also has free wifi.

The Hull Bay burger sounds like my kind of burger!

Alana, are you referring to the onion rings at Hull Bay? Hope so!

The chili at Shipwreck is pretty good. I downloaded quite a few episodes while eating a cup. I think it was $5.

Hey AaandA2VI - how are their ribs these days?
Had them and they were great, went back (got take out) and they were so tough, I had to cut (saw) the meat off the bones and give to my furballs so haven't been back in awhile. I just hate the inconsistancies with island restaurants.

VERDICT IS IN! Hull bay burgers FTW! By far!!

So hunny and I had a fab valentines day starting at Fishtails with bloody Mary's and oysters. Delish - super fresh. $20 for a dozen and they were big. Good deal.

Second stop was Tap and Still. Cool place. Burgers weren't very good IMO. I did overhear the guy (owner) who was very busy running around that they had a chef call out or something was up in the kitchen. We split the half pound bacon cheese for $10? It did have the flame broiled taste which was nice but it was WELL done and I mean WELL! I like med rare. It was pretty thin too. The lettuce and tomato were ice cold so it was weird in your mouth two raging different temps. It was OK but no Hull bay burger- no even close. It was cool that they serve it in paper bags even to eat in but when we needed a knife to cut the burger we got plastic that bent trying to cut through. We were pretty tossed up by this time so we were laughing our asses off trying to cut it and the knife just bending in half. What WAS freaking awesome was the Rogue DOUBLE IPA!!! OMG so delish and I hate IPAs! I had two and was wicked happy by the time we left... its 9%.... Wheeeeee! Bartender was pretty rude but I think it just have been her first week or something and they were packed with only two people working that I saw. I always give a three strike rule so we'll go back. It's new too so no doubt some kinks.

Our last stop was XO for my favorite filo Bree wheel with cranberries crustinis and raspberry jam.... And wine and a shot of strawberry infused vodka! Wahoo! That Bree wheel is one of my favorite things to eat on this rock.

After all this we went home and hit the couches. Fab day! 😉

I only eat ribs from off the grid. Once you've had those nothing compares... Better than any BBQ I've ever had in TX. No joke.

Wonder where the flame broiled taste came from, because it was not there when I went the other week. It was clearly a fried burger like Wendy's.

I'm about to give up eating anything out except for local food. The service and food are so much better at my house.
