I don't have the local DirecTV HD list handby but I seem to recall they do offer Fox in HD. However, be aware, it's a pretty skinny HD package compared to Dish.

I have Fox in SD. It's the HD I wanted. Maybe Direct TV has it?

In order to get HD from Direct I was told they need to install a larger dish. Not sure why, but I suspect they must be on weaker transponders.

They only have the networks in SD, And yes, their HD is very, very thin. Oh well.

I think you need to check the DirecTV PR site. It shows about 13 'offerings' if you will (still very skinny): http://www2.directvpr.com/english/descripcion-de-canales

Depending on how things shake out with my job in the next couple of months we'll definitely be dropping our Innovative basic cable to get Dish HD but will keep the DirecTV for the NFL Sunday Ticket even though it's in SD.

DirecTv PR has conflicting information. I got the HD channel list here.
http://www2.directvpr.com/english/products/directv-hd

On this page click on DIRECTV HD tab at the top and then the Programming tab. It clearly says 6 HD channels and lists them.

Seems Direct gives a lot of conflicting info. Including repair times. I hear they aren't showing up for trouble calls.
We received a call from a bar yesterday that has only 9 months left in there contract and Directv told them they would owe over $600 to cancel.
Add to that they won't come fix it.

Just sayin' Be careful when you sign up and make sure you know what you're getting!!

Its so ridiculous that here we are in 2011, a full 2 years since you've been able to get a non HD TV anywhere and like 10 years since HD signals started coming out, and we still have only one real option for HD service (Dish). And even then we can't get the networks.

Does anyone know when the VI got color? Was it like 1985?

Thank goodness for Dish otherwise we'd be really screwed. The damage Prosser did to the infrastructure of these islands will be felt for years to come, both in internet and in the TV realms.

The HD networks were assigned to a transponder a week ago, it has just not been activated yet. As the law changed in May 2010. Only Charlie knows when it will get turned on, The CSR's are always kept in the dark.

ENGLISHTYCOON SAID: "The HD networks were assigned to a transponder a week ago, it has just not been activated yet."

Does anyone know if the network HD will be available here when it is available stateside? Is this a national feed or spotbeams by city?

I'm sort of depressed at having lost network HD.

Just as important, if DISH is going to have networks available stateside -- does that mean American Direct will cease to exist as an option here? Not even SD networks.

95% of my viewing is network. If we lose network altogether, I'll probably dump DISH. Then what are my options???

I'd appreciate any info anyone has.

Thanks !

What ever you do, DO NOT SWITCH TO DIRECT TV..... what a waste! Counting the days till my 2yr contract is up, then I'll switch to DISH, hopefully they get all their problems fixed by summer when I switch.

Once again.

From the Area Sales Manager from Dishnetwork corporate.
"The Virgin Islands will have Caribbean networks soon".
He suspected a mix of Puerto Rico and VI stations with Fox from a stateside market like NY. Not 100% sure on that. He told me they would be in HD too.(tu) I'm very optimistic this will happen very soon. How soon? Time will tell.

My biggest complaint with Dish is that they do not care about their customers.

Why shut down Sobongo before they had their own alternative ready to offer us? Just in time for Superbowl!

they are assigned to a CONUS transponder on the 110 4891-9.

Dish also had a major power issue on the 77W bird and had to move a whole bunch of networks. around about 150 channels. Right now there is some major updates going on. Don't know if these problems delayed the HD networks coming online or not.

I really don't want PR locals. As they have 8 up there hopping for NY and LA just like the old days

Having the networks from PR will mean they will not have certain events like the first rounds of the BB playoffs in the fall. Fox in HD in from Chicago was the ideal solution. Also the PR stations with the commercials in Spanish was aggravating.

Dish Network's current Caribbean strategy is driven by the Puerto Rican market. The VI and the english speaking market in our region do not generate enuf revenue.

In August 2010, Dish started it's current campaign in our region. The focus: beat Direct TV.

I went to a regional marketing event in San Juan. The focus was comparing Dish to Direct in PR..

In dos dias de todo en Espaniol.

The PR market is large enuf for the legal guys to negotiate wi. the program providers.

The English speaking market in the region beyond the VI, would require license arrangements with ( and for) many independent countries., and likely would not gain as many potential customers as one agreement covering PR.

Does anyone know if the PR providers of US networks offer HD.

I've been looking thru the "Free to Air" satellites for US Networks. I found some,. It appears a full lineup of US Networks in english would require multiple satellites and dishes or a motorized dish moving from satellite to satellite.

It is also not hard to give us different programs to PR as it is address specific and if it is not on the spot beam. If you have an NYC address and bring your equipment here, you will still get NYC locals, but you do lose all the spot beam hi-def. Its a very simple thing for Dish to do if they wanted.

Perhaps we can work on that..

My experience wi. Dish is they play a numbers game. I would be surprised if there is nuf profit in it for them.

Unfortunately, these two channels are in Spanish.
While I enjoy getting NY locals in Standard Def, I really miss my HD for sports.
C'mon Dish Network, get your act together!

All 4 major networks are now available directly from Dish Network in the Virgin Islands. ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC as well as CW and an independent channel. But not in HD. Some are calling these "Locals",.....however they are mostly NY feeds simulcast through Puerto Rico and STT.
Networks vs Locals is confusing for many.
You now have a choice of getting them from Dish on channels
8 CBS,
10 Independent,
14 NBC,
17 CW,
20 ABC,
24 FOX
These are included for new customers and available to existing customers for $5 mo.
The content has more filler and Infomercials than the All American Direct feeds.

Dude. We barely have passable roads and a consistent power grid, and you want satellite HD?!?

ETA: REMEMBER WHERE YOU ARE!
