I am researching a move to somewhere in USVI. I am an experienced RN-BSN. My background is surgery, and infusion therapy. I would appreciate any input on this topic. Thank-you folks!

Lin:

Hope my post on your other thread didn't sound overly pessimistic. I meant to include the link to the article on the Virgin Islands Daily News site. Here it is:

http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/index.pl/article_home?id=5826120

I just meant that until this brouhaha reaches some sort of climax, the hospitals won't be very likely to hire new contract nurses. Hopefully the standoff will be short-lived.

Hi Lin,
I'm a nurse working here at the local hospital on St. Thomas. It is a 169 bed hospital that recently got it's Jacho accreditation. I work NICU so I can't say too much about the OR or surgical floor but I do like it in general. I had a friend who recently had to go to the ER and she was very pleased with her care. As with any hospital there are a few of the old timers who are stick in the muds but for the most part people are very, very friendly. Feel free to email me privately if you want and maybe I can offer more helpful specific info.
Sidnie

oops sorry i meant Sydnie, I looked at the message wrong! I am just so excited to be going to St Thomas! I talked with Marcy in nurse recruitment today and she basically said 4 bed capacity, not very sick babies, load would be a sick one and a well one.. I am not sure where my housing will be. Do u know where i could get a cheap car?
thanks
M

Hi Sidnie,

I got your email address from the St.Thomas forum. I am a NICU nurse and I will be starting my travel assignment at Schneider's Hospital in St. Thomas on May 19th. I was hoping you could give me some info on what to expect? Did you have a great experience? Is there anything I should know or do to be prepared for the hospital? I am really excited andI get along great with people. Did you enjoy your days off from work? I am hoping to find some other nurses that are there since I will be there alone. I will be staying at Sapphire Village.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Misty

Misty,

This post is from 2004 - 4 years ago. I doubt this poster is still around. Do a search and you will find lots of more recent hospital info.

I have a 2BR condo available for month to month lease for traveling nurses. I am a nurse in NYC myself. PM me if you are interested.
