STX recommendations for pet sitters? I am looking for responsible person to visit twice a day, morning, afternoon to tend to pet. Has to be reliable and trustworthy. Does such a service or person exist on STX? Usually up to a week etc. FEEDBACK PLEASE.

Give Island Animal Clinic (Dr. Paul Hess) a call. They usually have some business cards for pet sitters on their counter. Or just ask them when you call who they recommend.

what kind of pets do you have and how many? Also, where are you located? I might know someone.

I'm a local attorney who regularly house-sits/pet-sits on STX between the months of October and May. PM me for references and more info. Experience with everything from dogs and cats to geese and goats.

Iris,

Geese and goats? LMAO! Would love to have a pet goat, but a goose???? I don't think so. Don't they bite? I grew up with a lot of wild geese, and they were MEAN!

Only the ganders really bite, and then only if he thinks you're going after his girls. The females are quite sweet and docile. They also are very easily bribed with/distracted by bread and toddler wading pools filled with water.

I got to stomp around in wellies and carry a five-foot crook like I was Bo Peep. It was pretty awesome.

Awww, I had pet geese as a kid "Fred and Ethyl". They were the best pets ever, very smart and not mean, I think it helps when you raise them from babies! I taught them to sunbathe on the lawn furniture, should have seen the looks on people's faces when they drove by.

I am new to island of STX, but have started pet sitting and baby sitting on the side, caring for our landlord's dogs right now in fact. We have 3 cats of our own and one that is diabetic. I have experience with dogs, cats, (geese ;)) and also administering meds both orally and via injection. PM me if you need help. I'm sure I can get my landlords (who are also on these boards) to vouch for me once they return from vaca...

One of the posters on this board, dcruz218, is a very experienced vet tech who is starting a pet-sitting business out of her home in Frederiksted. I went to meet her and see her home, where my Chihuahua will be staying for a few days later this month. I was very impressed with her professionalism, friendliness, and knowledge of pet care. She thought of things that I didn't, which is rare when it comes to my own pet. She also has business cards, which indicate that she takes her business venture very seriously. She even said she likes to text or email photos of your pet while you're away. I'll miss my dog, as always, while I'm gone, but I won't be worried about her at all.

Of course, my dog hasn't completed her stay, so this is an incomplete review, but so far, I've been very impressed, and I'll repost if anything occurs to change that.

Teamhurldon and Roadrunner, what kind of rates are you seeing for this sort of work? What about in your home versus the pet owners' home?

I think I paid $18/night, and I can't remember what she charges for in-home house sitting, but it wasn't much more than that. And... since I never updated... my furry friend came home very happy!
