We currently use Walgreens stateside for our pharmacy. However, I am interested in switching to another pharmacy when we move if there is a more preferred one on the island.

Does anyone know if any of the below are 24 hours? I believe I read somewhere that Healthy Living has a 24 hour on-call pharmacist but not sure about the others.

* Chelsea Drug Store
* Doctor's Choice Pharmacy
* Drug Farm Pharmacy
* Healthy Living Pharmacy
* The Medicine Shoppe
* Walgreens

Also, does anyone know if Life Alert is available on STT? I called Life Alert and they didn't know but I'm getting a brochure that "will answer all my questions."

I assume you're asking about St. Thomas though that's not clear. On St. Croix there is no 24 hour drug store that I know of.

If you're speaking about St. Croix, let us know and I'll give you some daytime recommendations.

No 24 hour pharmacy on STT and I don't believe Life Alert is in the USVI. I assume that if you needed an emergency prescription outside regular hours you would have to go to the hospital ER.

There are no 24 hour pharmacies open on Stt like there are some in the states.
If you are stuck in the ER for many hours and they prescribe medication that you need for emergency use/ASAP and the regular pharmacies are closed, e.g.. Kmart, Walgreens, etc. You can call Healthy Living Pharmacy at Barbel Plaza after hours phone number and the pharmacist will meet you at Healthy Living Pharmacy and fill your prescription(s). This service is only to be used for emergency use, not refills or prescription(s) that can wait until regular business hours.

Chelsea Drug Store is #1.Their customer service is the best.

No 24 hour pharmacies. No 24 hour anything. Well, stores anyway.

I am thinking we will switch to Chelsea Drug Store and use Healthy Living for emergencies. Thank you for the great info!

That's a slap in the face! Why not use the one that is willing to go the extra mile to help you in an emergency?

I switched vets for that reason. My regular vet would not help my dying cat at 3:00 AM, but my new vet answered the phone and opened the office. THAT is how you get customers.

Oh, and my cat lived. Amazing how a (now) 3 legged cat cat resume a normal life after an amputation.

I'm confused by your response. I can attest to a few times when a local veterinarian went out of his way to deal with an animal in dire straits way outside normal operating hours but what the fudge does that have to do with 24 hour pharmacies?

A human medical emergency is dealt with at a hospital ER.

If you rely on a prescription medication you ensure that you keep a supply on hand.

I agree with CruzanIron. This isn't the states where maybe you can do that because you are treated as a number. These are small business owners. Plus I don't think you can use their emergency services unless you are a regular, loyal customer. I should've mentioned that in my above post, but I could be wrong. I would contact them. They are very nice.
I've been using them since they opened and used their emergency service once.
They have great customer service!

Sometimes in a medical emergency, like I had, and spent hours upon hours in the ER, the ER physician might prescribe a medication that you normally don't have on hand or use regularly and you have to start it ASAP according to the instructions. Then that's where Healthy Living Pharmacy comes in handy with their 24 hour emergency services if you should ever need to use it.

It is like a slap in the face if you use one pharmacy just for their emergency services because your regular pharmacy, that you are loyal to, doesn't offer emergency services.

(I have no idea what it has to with vets.)

Well, what I was trying to plan on is one option in Red Hook and one in town that is recommended. If we live in Red Hook, Chelsea might be the best option. If we live in town, then Healthy Living would work as I am assuming it is close to town as it is difficult to find on a map. Where is Healthy Living located on Google or Innovative maps?? I am assuming it is east of town?

I was thinking that it is nice to know we would have plans in place for an emergency. LOYALTY: I would rather switch from Walgreens (even though we have never had any problems with them) and support a local business. Ultimately, I would also like it to be close to home in case I am at work and my mother (that has CHEMO on a regular basis) CAN GET TO if she needs to pick up a script by herself.

There are so many things up in the air until we arrive on the island, that is why I am humbly asking for guidance. Whatever we say or do is not meant to be a slap in the face and seems harsh. I am so happy your cat lived as I have friends that have 3 legged cats and it is amazing that they still have quality of life and I love animals & pets as children of my own. We have always had pets that are considered family members and whatever I say when I am trying to figure this whole thing out should not be taken so heavily.

Please understand I am in search of the right thing to do. If we don't live near Healthy Living and my mother gets out of chemo and needs a prescription, my loyalty is to her and how she is feeling.

I greatly appreciate those of you that have given me advice.

If your mother will be receiving chemo at Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute at the hospital the closest pharmacies that she can use on her own would be Doctor's Choice in the Wheatley Center, where Fruit Bowl is located, or Drug Farm behind the hospital in the V.I. Medical Foundation Building or in Lockhart Gardens Shopping Center where Kmart is located.

Healthy Living Pharmacy is located on William G. Lewis Lane (Lover's Lane) on Google Map. The large white building in the middle. Barbel Plaza consists of three separate buildings.
