Good evening, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

We are not taking vehicles nor furniture with us for the 1st year we are on the island. I am trying to figure out the most efficient/economical way to get some of our household items down there.

Do I send separate boxes as air cargo or sea cargo? via Fedex? or is there a better way? Or is there some type of service that you rent a small container or pod stateside to ship to STT?

I am thinking the amount of items would fit into 4 large boxes or 1 small pod/container.

If you only are shipping a few boxes, just get some large, heavy duty boxes from HD and send them Priority Mail. Use the USPS online process. It is only a few dollars more than Parcel Post and should arrive in 2-4 days. You can easily print the labels and postage at home and add insurance if you want. Just affix to the boxes and drop off at the P.O. You will received tracking of the boxes along the entire route.

We have recently been shipping the other way and it has taken 2-3 days for 55lb boxes to get from STX to South Carolina. We were really surprised how fast they arrived.

I sent one 43# box from FL to STX regular (slow) mail for $49.00 and it only took 2 weeks.

Yep, USPS, priority or parcel post depending on your budget. Pack everything up tight with lots of heavy-duty tape. Towels and clothing make great padding for more fragile items.

Great. I will probably do USPS "snail mail" since it will take some time to find our new place anyway. Thanks!
