Recommend me a hair salon, please--STX

I have really unruly hair--the individual strands are baby fine, but I have so much hair that when I get it cut more than an inch or so at a time, it looks like an animal exploded on the floor of the salon. It grows ridiculously fast, and it's got just enough wave in it to take forever to straighten it, but not enough to hold a real curl (thank you, Cherokee dad). It's taken me years to find someone that does a good enough job on it that I can afford a cut that needs a decent amount of maintenance, and I'm afraid that when I move, either I won't be able to find someone who cuts it the way I like, or I won't be able to afford it. Can anyone recommend a stylist for me (preferably not someplace expensive)?

Donna owns and operates Welcome Hair. She is my neighbor, and does a meticulous and great job. She is in Gallows Bay up from Traveler's Tree.

Indulgence in Sunny Isle. Haircuts are $40 and they do a great job. they have really talented staff, in my opinion, and they do work with different types of hair. i have tried many places here, they are my favorite. 340-713-1489.

I agree with nforbes. Crystal, the owner of Indulgence participates in continuing training off island, on a regular basis. Up on all the latest and basics too.

nforbes, Do you have really long hair? I don't remember exactly, but pretty sure I don't pay $40. I seldom get just a haircut, though. Usually highlights, so maybe just the cut would be that much. My husband pays $20. Why are men always less???

I have an island hair theory. If you have curly or wavy hair, don't fight it. It will be curlier & wavier in this climate. If you have straight hair, it just gets lanker so don't fight it either & get the most flattering, best cut you can find that will be the most hassle-free. There are very few good hair days in the Caribbean unless you're a helmet-head with a ton of hair spray. 😉

My wife, who also has really fine hair, got a nice cut for a decent price at Monique's at Coakley Bay condos.

I have gone t9 the same lady here in the states for over 30 years. While in STX for 2 months I had to go get it cut and went to Under the Palms in Gallows bay. The owner, I can't remember her name did a great job, as good as I was used to getting. Highly recommend her.

saw the new guy at under the palms do a cut one day. he was very professional and so percise. would consider him in a minute. i personally think it is best to move around. you get new ideas from stylists.

my hair is pretty basic so maybe i can do that.

does anyone k now what frongillos charge for color and cut??

my cut was $75 at Frongillos but he did a very good, focused job. Can't afford those anymore!

75$? i was thinking about trying him out but i can't afford 75 big ones. my hair grows so fast that in a week would not even be able to tell. under the palms do a great job and alot less. will stick to them.

yeah, that was a high price. but no one could cut and style my hair the way i wanted. I asked people for a side sweep bang and got blank stares. i have a gift certificate for Monique's, but i don't like the stylists there for my hair cuts.

LOL! i have never heard of a $15 hair cut unless you're a guy. I think $30 is the bare minimum and that does not include color which is usually over $50. Because of this, i get my hair cut for $40 and buy the box color for $10, lol

Here in NC I've never paid over $20...guess it's going to be part of the price I pay to move to STX.
