Hey islanders, need some help!! Our cat Eden eats Royan Canin - Pea and Venison limited ingredient food. We brought a bag with us last month when me moved here and as it got to about 1/4 of a bag we had my parents stateside ship us another bag until we could figure out how to get it here on our own.

The bag that they shipped must be bad or has gone bad? Or has something wrong with it as the cats wont eat it, they take a few bites and then leave it alone. Thats VERRRYYYY unusual for our cats, they do not free feed, they get food twice a day and are like vultures at feeding time. So the fact that they aren't eating it is very alarming. I am thinking its bad or moldy or somethings up with it. They badger us to eat still, but them leave it alone. This morning there is still food in the bowls and one of the two has puked up the undigested food that they did eat. Likely Eden as she is sensitive to stuff. Were on the Northside and the only thing I can think of is maybe mold (looks fine) or maybe it was just a bad batch.

The vet in Tutu doesn't carry any limited ingredient foods. I will be calling around today locally to see what I can find.

I am willing to switch her diet to Science Diet limited ingredient too.... They also have a pea and venison and a duck and venison dry food.

We've tried several places for getting the food via internet - petmeds, petfood direct, amazon (several places) petco, petsmart.

Does anyone know of a vet on STT STJ or STX that carries either Royal Canin or Science Diet RX foods?? Im willing to fly over to STX to get it or have it overnighted and can easily go to STJ to get a bag also.

Unfortunately I cant feed her a off the shelf food - after $2k in bloodwork they still cant tell us what the allergy is but she vomits blood and has bloody rank mucous diarrhea if not given a limited ingredient food. That last for about 2-3 weeks, not to mention she is miserable during the "spell", lethargic, painful, and overall not herself.

Unfortunately our cats wont eat anything other than their dry cat food, as I thought about making some fish or chicken or SOMETHING for them to eat. My pets are like my children so I have to find something that works without making her sick. Thanks in advance!

Just an FYI, if you do find it on STX, the seaplane does cargo shipments so you can get it the same day. Proces shouldn't be too bad for a bag of cat food. Try calling Sugarmill vet clinic--I remember talking about royal canin with them once and they may stock it.

So now I can get the Hills Science Diet D/D, my vet from AZ will write me a Rx for it. The Royal Canin is just not going to happen.

Must be hard on your cats. Hard enough to adjust to strange reations and allergies as a grown human who can at least understand. Poor kitties.

You can check with these for your dog's/cat's food/STT

Market Square Pet Supply - 340-626-7558

Pure'ly Paws 340-715-7297
There is also
Ace Pet Supplies in 4 winds Plaza - 714-7064

You can check with Drs. John and Marilyn Moore - Veterinary Centers of VI.
They have location near Cost U less and also in Red Hook for another source of food. 340-777-7788

I use Dr. Williamson who is out across from Antilles school but he doesn't sell any pet food supplies.
Possibly they could order? Call 775-3240 and ask.

Thanks Alana - we ended up having to order it from the Moores office by TuTu. Should have it asap.

The Rx food cant be sold unless a vets on staff I guess so the pet food stores cant sell it. We will be switching to the Hills D/D since we can get it here easier than the Royal Canin and its the same protein - Venison and Pea limited ingredient. Kitties aren't stoked im sure but they will still nibble on it. Did all I could, heck I was even willing to fly to PR or STX lol. Spoiled kitties, but we love them so much.

This is a perfect example of the wierd stuff that happens on an island. You don't realize how isolated you are until something like this happens.

Yea, true. I think planning ahead is the key. In this case I didnt get 2 bags as planned because my dad was complaining about shipping it for me LOL. Their food is useable at least. I guess WORST case is we could get an off the shelf brand, even thou I hate for her stomach to be upset. Hopefully our science diet food works for her and we will be able to get it locally - easier. Maybe I should start THAT business LOL - $60 for 8lbs of food. HA!

I think you have the makings of a country western song.

No cat food for me

Or maybe blues... Rap?

No offense meant, I spent meaty four hours on the phone dealing with (not) Innovative, their hold thing is really bad. But seone may call me back, call me maybe

Good vibes that you snag a dependable supply of cat food, maybe you could harvest the local deer and grow peas?

Maybe try ground goat or mutton, pure some frozen peas, mix, voila, cat food, throw in some cat vitamins and herbs, think gilligan's island

I actually looked up a recipe for pea and chicken cat food, going to try it tomorrow. The weird thing is that Eden wont eat anything other than dry cat food lol! Weve tried tuna, canned chicken and even mahi mahi!!! Sheese!

Cats get hungry, they eat. I feed the cats at cotton valley bins and they eat old mashed potatoes and even veggie chilli, nearly everything. My theory is that cats are reincarnated narcissists

I agree with Bombi...a cat will eat anything when its really hungry.

Perhaps your cats have filled up on birds.

$60 for 8 lbs. of cat food is outrageous! With the amount of animals I feed, I would never be able to afford those prices so I will be thankful my gang does not have picky eaters or allergies, etc. (fingers crossed for that continuing!).
Good Luck with making your own.
Maybe you can dry it out with one of those machines they have for dehydrating food.
