Just a meandering thought prompted by your thread title when my first reaction was, female?, what species?

Deborah Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University says, “We’re hearing woman as an adjective more often now. Female connotes a biological category. I think many feminists avoid it for the same reason they prefer gender to sex. . . . I avoid female in my own writing because it feels disrespectful, as if I’m treating the people I’m referring to as mammals but not humans.

Well, I had woman at first, but didn't like the sound of it in my mind. I missed her name and wanted to post quickly so I could move on to something else.

How nice that you can hurriedly and carelessly write something insensitive or disrespectful, then move on and forget about it. Do you also vomit on things and then move on without cleaning it up?

Sorry, didn't know it was considered disrespectful. Arrest me.

Thank you. I accept your apology on behalf of all the girls, ladies and women, which, for future reference, are words used to identify females specifically of the human species 🙂

Oh for goodness' sake lighten up. "Insensitive", "disrespectful"? Now if the word for a female dog had been used ...

It didn't upset me and was just a wandering observation. 😀

Yeah, but you're an old man. Of course you didn't think much of it.

Tart is not of the male human species.
Your turn for an apology.

I can only identify human females, and not always all of them.

Did anybody look at the video????

I watched. I'd also read the article on a FB feed. Good for her. At 18 I'd be ok with scooping ice cream for a living. Now not so much.

I had my "career" and at 45 years old, sailed to St. Thomas, where I became a waitress and, later, a bartender. I made as much money and at the end of the shift, I didn't take home a briefcase or "homework". Great exercise, too!

Thanks for a good chuckle! Were I an "old man"I would be equally amused at such a ridiculous generalization of age and gender. Keep laughing, gull, and never take on a bigger fish than you can handle, lest you choke on it. 😛

I saw her on the ABC news this morning.
I doubt she'll make a career out of scooping ice cream but for right now, she's young and care free, enjoying an island lifestyle.
Get it while you can!;) (At any age!)

Sorry for the assumption, Old Tart. I think I am just tired of so much disrespect on these message boards. Sometimes it's blatant and vile, sometimes slippery and covert. I know I was triggered by a post I read yesterday, about the employment opportunity for a physical therapy technician. Comments (presumably from men, because I don't know women who talk like this) about "happy endings" and "rub and tugs" are just so unnecessary, and I don't understand why it's acceptable to everyone. So this person referring to a lady as "female" just set me off. If you want to be called a female, that's fine.

So you are saying only women are capable of happy endings or rub and tugs? MY comments on that thread were not gender specific.

There's no "outrage" or any milder adjective to get. LaughingGull took offense, just one poster just having a bad day - and explained why.

Hmmmm,.........Maybe Islander can add a NSFW (Not Suitable for Work) section. Only available to those who specifically sign up for access after being suitably warned of possible inflammatory, graphic and adult nature of the discussions.I've seen other sites with this sort of section.

So using the word "female" instead of "woman" is possibly, "inflammatory, graphic and (of) adult nature"? We be entering a whole new era of ultrasensitivity. Who'd a thunk that a simple meandering thought could produce such digression. I'll try not to write my meandering thoughts here in future. 😀

So are we supposed to capitalize Shemale or Heshe when referring to them in a post?
