Starting a Business?

Hello,

My wife and I are relocating to St. Thomas and are looking to open a company or come to work for a company. If we start our company it will be a Janitorial and Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Company. I have over 25 years in both industries. I'm a 7 time published Author, and long-time Fire Safety Expert on Kitchen Exhaust Systems.

Is it fairly easy to open a company there, is it like the states I'm in Florida now)?

Thoughts and suggestions????

Thanks,

Joe

Sounds like a good business to operate down here with all your experience. My suggestion is to get Mr. LeBron of LeBron & Associates to get your business license for you. The man's a genius as far as getting the paperwork done & worth whatever he charges now. He can speed the process immensely. There are tons of restaurants & bars here. Good luck!

His phone number is 340-776-4678.
Fax number is 776-9720

Is it easy to start a company in the USVI? Some would say nothing to do with government regulations is easy. You should be prepared to be patient and accept the fact that this is not the USA.

I would suggest working for someone else at first. Get your feet wet and learn about the ins and outs of our islands. Maybe you could find a business that would like to expand into your field.

Hi,
I started my own business here too. I had a lawyer (Marshall Bell) make up the papers for the LLC.
The total cost was about $1500.
I opened a business account by email when I was still off island.
When I arrived I only had to get my fire inspection and health inspection done and provide some paperwork to the bank. Probably the bank took the longest time for me because I am not American! They need all kind of papers.

Wapa was the only problem for me because I needed 3 phase electricity otherwise I would have had it in 2 days! I guess I was lucky. I opened my business 6 weeks after I arrived here. I had lots of help from people and did not give up. Just be patient and very friendly even if they are not friendly to you, they will come around if you are!
Good luck!

Thanks for all the information so far.

I would love to find a company looking to expand into the Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning & Maintenance Market as it is a very profitable business with very low overhead. It just requires a vast amount of knowledge (in which I have).

For those of you on the island.......Any ideas of who might be interested in making a lot of money utilizing my knowledge? I would gladly go to work for someone or assist someone in building a business from scratch as long as I have stable long-term employment. I would love to speak with a few people if there are any out there?

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks,

Joe
