And here I thought the Virgin Island were entirely irrelevant during the presidential primaries!

Any idea how much it costs to attend?

Nevermind, the article says a minimum contribution of $1,000 is required to attend.

hmmm I had some very negative thoughts written here but I edited it.

Let's just say I think it's ridiculous. If you are considering going to this dinner, please just make a donation to our schools or to some families here on island who will put the money to good use in the VI rather than propelling a candidate who clearly doesn't need our help further into the presidential race.

I don't know how sincere his professed interest in the USVI really is but if I lived stateside I probably wouldn't vote for a candidate who traveled a minimum of 1200 miles to solicit campaign contributions from people who can not vote.

If you want to be a "FRIEND OF OBAMA" $2300.00, if you want to be a "GUEST OF OBAMA" $1000.00.
Not soliciting....just reporting.

Hello, all,

You guys are too cynical - and also it must show some degree of sincere interest in the VI ( but more likely the Caribbean ) precisely because there is no vote for President.

oh st croix will always be of interest to washington, if only because of the oil refinery, the other islands and PR are pretty much irrelevant, we'd have chavez in our yards if the dc politicos ever turned their backs on us.

Wow, such cynics. If a candidate ignores the USVI he's just another Washington pol that could care less. If he/she comes down here it must be for a vacation for he/she and their staff. Could it also be that there is genuine concern in the issues here? Why don't you wait to see what he has to say before you bash him.

And, no. I'm not an Obama supporter. Just someone that is willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

Some people who move to the USVI never give up their mainland residency so they can vote in presidential elections. There are a few votes to be had here,

It's a fund-raiser & a vacation. If a candidate came down here on his own nickel without a high-priced dinner in his/her behalf, I'd consider it a genuine interest in us. I doubt any of the candidates would do that so it's not a hit at this candidate.

Y'all are probably right. However, we will indeed be sending a delegation to both the irrelevant Republican and Democratic conventions. It does bother me that US citizens registered to vote in US territories have no say in our national affairs, but it is kind of nice that we can't be blamed for the current debacle in Washington either. None of my tax money goes to the fiasco in Iraq... unless you count the money that they're raiding from social security!

The Stumpers should get together and call for a Shenanigans Ball, That would be fun! You could dance, drink, and eat while they jabber.

I thought I read somewhere that Virgin Islanders could still vote in the primary election. Is that true?
