Welcome back trw...sorry to hear of your leg problems. We did miss your posts and hope you'll be feeling 100% better soon!

Tam-Have a great trip to the states. Where will you be? Does JJ like to see snow on occasion? Perhaps something you see or do will be so out of the ordinary he won't be miserable. But as they say, there's no place like home! (I'm sure if it's STX that is doubly so!)

We will be in Norfolk, Virginia. On the Chesapeake Bay. I am sorry I sound so negative about the visit back to the states. We will have some fun times and of course getting to see my other children is wonderful. My problem is dealing with the corporate world. Even though I work from STX every day the stresses don't seem as big here. When I get tired of it, I close my computer and go outside. I am very lucky to be able to do that so I should not complain on the few occasions that I have to go back to the states and deal with things in person.

As for the weather. No nice fluffy snow. Sideways blowing freezing rain and wind. When it does snow it is usually freezing wet stuff. JJ hates it because he wants to be outside all the time. He also hates wearing anymore clothes than neccessary. The hardest thing is getting shoes on his feet.

I will take my laptop so I can hear all the great STX stories and see how you all are doing.

Have a good Easter everyone.

Tammy

ah Tammy, i really feel bad for you, my number 2 just got back from akron and she said it reminded her why she left up there in the first place, cold, cold, cold, just got home from the 12milejob and had to take south shore road all the way around to avoid the mess downtown, today is a good reason for the bypass if ever there was one,not all of us can go and party in the streets, some of us still have to feed the tourists and make a living. i read a bunch of junk while i was in bed and so to make up for that i'm now reading the architecture of america, and a history of massachussets from 1630 to 1645,hahaha

I just want to throw something out there for all the regulars who actually live on STX. A few months ago I saw a woman as I was waiting, in my car, in line at the bank. She came out of the bank and got into a car and drove away. I kept thinking she was someone I knew a long, long time ago in Florida. But, as we do, I didn't approach her, and it has been driving me crazy ever since. I have convinced myself it was her. Her name is Rosalee. When I knew her, her last name was Jones, but I think she remarried, so that has changed. She was in the hotel sales business. She's about 65 years old. Does anyone know her?

My trip report traveling back to the states. Plane was 45 minutes late taking off. Flight was rough and mom got sick. Got to Charlotte, NC and our flight was delayed 3 hours. Mom ran out of oxygen but some nice police officers/EMTs, (it seems they perform both duties), brought a bottle of oxygen for her until her machine could be recharged. JJ was fine and enjoyed the rough flight as I do. (We both love roller coasters). We arrived in Norfolk, Va. too late to get our rental cars but we were able to call ahead of time and have our son drop off our pick up truck. The weather of course was the sideways blowing freezing rain but luckly we found a piece of plastic inside the truck to cover our luggage. Our daughter had our little cottage nice and clean with clean sheets and food in the fridge. JJ, mom and Doug fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows. I am still awake at 4:40 am to wound up to sleep. We are here safe and sound and only a little worse for the wear. Mom swears she will not get back on the plane. I wonder if Tropical or Crowley will ship her for me. I miss St. Croix.

Dougtamjj, there is one thing about the Charlotte airport that has all others beat...the rocking chairs in the Atrium and numerous eating places, plus great shops too....Just think, you could have been stuck in Miami..lol

You are right Charlotte. It is one of my favorite airports and one of my favorite cities. Just not so great in the middle of the night with a grumpy mom and a wild JJ. Miami would have been much worse.

It is cold and grey today in Norfolk, Virginia. Today JJ started the I want to go back to my island chant. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 70s so hopefully he will be happier and get outside and run off some energy. I tried to find him some warmer clothes but he jumped from a size 4 to a size 6 and has outgrown everything. The stores only have summer clothes now. He has done well however mostly playing in our warehouse getting filthy dirty and playing in giant triwall boxes of packing peanuts. This morning when we went to work, Ashley, our pregnant daughter, who is our office manager, had her head down on her desk with a trash can near by (bad morning sickness) JJ went over to her and lifted her shirt and said, "Ash, has your baby hatched yet?" It was perfect. She dried her teary eyes and gave him a big hug and told him that he made her day. Not another day in paradise but a great moment shared.

Have a good night everyone.

Hi Trade, JJ and I will be coming back the last Saturday in March. I don't know about hubby and Mom. Mom informed me yesterday that she is not getting back on the plane and she is staying here. LOL. I just don't know what to say about that right now.

Went shopping at Golden Rock Pueblo for just a few things last night. I was in the mood for tortilla chips and melted cheese. The munchy isle was picked through except the Tostito brand chips. YES! I got home and opened them and they were so stale they were soft...everyone must know that they are stale, except me.

well the guy they hired to bartend is supposed to start today, once he's trained in i get to drop to 4 shifts a week at my 18milenight job,i can't call it my 18milebenfitjob anymore because the health insurance is a joke and you'd have to work 6 night shifts to get the hours in to qualify, they finally showed me the policy and it's basically only for catastrophic, so i'll go with the benefits at my 12mile job after a full year of service, so lets all hope that the guy they hired shows up tonight.

ok heres the story about why i sobered up on STX, i litterally could not get arrested here, i was drunk and coked/cracked out one night driving through mon bijou and i smashed into 2 parked cars and a fence totalling my truck and 2 cars and a fence in the process, lol big mess, so i think ok i'll just take off running and go home and nobody will know it was me, so i did but i got lost and just kept running in circles and yelling help cause hey i'm in mon bijou and i WILL get shot, lol well no one shot me they just thought who is this crazy messed up white guy and called the cops, well the cops found me running in circles being a mess with drugs in the car and a bottle of vodka on the seat and made me lay on the ground for awhile and they yelled at me lol and then asked me why i ran and all i could say was "well i'm white,it's 4am and i'm in mon bijou" and the cop just laughed at me and said ok and then said trw get in the backseat and stay there, so i did and he handed me my drugs and my bottle of vodka and had the accident processed and my truck towed and gave me a ride home, keep in mind that i had no drivers license or insurance and the truck was not in my name, many times before that i'd disappear into the bush for days at a time and the other half would call the cops and they'd come and find me drugs, booze and all and just haul me home, my drug dealer was the one that finally convinced me to sober up, he said i was spending to much money and being way too crazy, i mean really how many people will stand and yell and have tantrums at the top of their lungs at their drug dealers and just basically pitch fits, lol he liked the money but hey i was a high maitenence drug addict and i felt that if i'm spending close to a grand a week you'd damn well provide me with a good service and protection and he did but i just got way to imperial with him lol,, hey i'm an only child used to getting his way and throw the gay thing into it and this poor guy was just frusrated hahaha, so i stopped it all no more drugs and no more booze and so for the last couple of years i've been sober and in the program trying to work and live the program and some days are tougher than others, i still go see my old dealer because i kinda like him as a person, hey he was not my problem i was, i bring him and his crew cake and stuff and all my old junk when i clean house and so thats my "getting sober on STX story.

and of course now that i reread this 4 hours later i want to clarify that this time of my life was very bad but when i told the story i did not want to get all maudlin and down so i tried to make it somewhat humourous, at times it was but most of the time it was just really bad, addictions of any kind are an awful thing when they start to control you. Off to work

So I guess I won't bore you with my tales of tons of shock treatments back in the 60's-70's when I was considered to be too young to be an alcoholic? 🙂 Funny you told that story now since it was 34 years ago today I had my last drink. 12,410 individual days at a time. Good for you, trw.

Good for both of you...trw and Trade!
I am sure it is hard to be the only sober ones on the islands at times....but if you can do it there, you can do it anywhere!

Congrats!
Tamara

Trade, hope this isn't rude but are you male or female? I've had trouble telling from your posts! Not that it matters, just curious....

that is too funny, trw....I wasn't sure because I think you were joking around about being the "princess" of something and you or someone asked if Trade was still the "queen" of something....so I was thinking that too!

Like I said, it doesn't really matter, but I was just curious. Also, she did offer suggestions at one point on places to get manicures on STT. I just thought the person was really knowledgeable.
