Sanddollar - we live on the Parrothead part time. We also have a house in the west end. That's the best of both worlds as our boat is so often overrun with visitors both at the dock and for daytrips out to Buck that sometimes it really is nice to get away. Having room to store things and a bit of elbow room is useful, too.

Thanks trw - my stepson has been recoating the brite work the past couple of weeks. I've been off-island a few days to attend my second son's Air Force Basic Training Graduation in San Antonio (they made "Honor Flight" - awesome!) and it will be interesting to see how much more got finished while I was away. I hear they had the boat out most every day that I've been gone since the Hurricane Hunters have been there along with some crews from other Air Bases. I'm bringing Son #3 home with me for the rest of the summer and my other stepson and two of his friends arrive in a week. Going to have a boatful of boys! Maybe I'll be spending some "sanity" time at my house! lol

well stupid me just stuck my hand in the bag of dog food to get the measuring cup out and i got bit on the finger by a rat,i deserved it because i did not look first,so i shook the rat out of the bag and one of the dogs got it and finished it off, i ran my finger under cold water snd then soaked it in listerine lol thats the only type of disinfectant i could find, then i called the other half at work and he told me we do not have rabies on this island thats why they don't give rabies shots to the dogs, lol not sure if i believe him or not lol i think he's just trying to do me in.

so i just saw how late it was and had to make a mad dash to one of the bars up here for smokes and everything was closed but one of the places still had some really dim lights going so i drove on down there and the owner was drunker than crap eating in the kitchen with the doors wide open, and i guess it pissed me off so i got my smokes and offered to stay until they were done eating and how many more times do you want to get beat up and robbed, christ use your head and i was told not to worry "this is what i do" well i guess i'm done with any sympathy i once had for this person,EVERYONE in this area banded behind you and this is how you repay us,by being drunk, by yourself with the doors wide open.

I'd hate to be 25 again unless I could be smarter than I was at the time. Where's Tammy?

Welcome to the wonderful world of aging. I try to comfort myself that I look better than Keith Richards (only a female version) but then, folks who have been dead 6 months look better than he does, bless his heart. Glad everything was negative, trw. (tu)

trw,
I'm pretty sure the LS means Landmark Society, just one of those specialty tags, like Olympics, Humane Society, etc.

ok Juanita you are right about the plate thing i had to go to dmv today and i saw a big poster for the landmark society and the plates were the same,i also believe after today that the dmv on STT is more efficient than the one here,i had to go to #2 and there were 3 women in there, one on a computer, one helping a customer and one reading an Avon catalog,i stood there for about 10 minutes, the lady with the avon catalog looked up once and then went back to dreaming about cheap makeup, and i just thought honey if you possibly manage to get up off that chair you are crushing you might discover a level of ambition that might entice you to get a 2nd job so you can afford some Mary Kay products, but LOL that did'nt work and one of the other ladies came over and told me to go to the next window for the papers i needed, then i went to pearle vision to get the nose gaurds on my glasses replaced and the lens screws tightened and that was free so i tipped her for being quick and nice.

Was in front of the Lucinda Millin home at rush hour yesterday behind a smaller safari loaded with tourists "back to the ship" & one tossed an empty plastic water/soda bottle out and it didn't fall out, it was thrown. If I didn't have traffic behind me & the safari had been stopped I'd have grabbed the bottle & handed it back to the idiot. Burns me up big time.

Hi again,
Thanks, Trade, for the "down side"!! I can see some frustration in there somewhere. lol....OK, now I'm ready for your "positives"!

I agree with you about the plastic bottle thrower...what uncaring tourists. My son once witnessed a guy at a stop signal toss a lit cigarette out his window. My son got out of his car, grabbed it and ran up to the guy's car and tossed it in and said "Here, I think you dropped this." LOL .....I told him that was a GREAT response. My husband and his friend saw someone dump a whole big garbage bag of trash off the side of the road. He stopped, went through the trash and found the guy's address, and he and his friend drove the bag back to the guy's house and dumped it on his front lawn. Haha. Stupid people.

I'm retired so don't really care if I get stuck in rush hour. I can skimp on water and really skimp on electricity, but I don't know about not being able to flush!! lol

Alexandra/Juanita - Do you both have rental places. I would be bringing my dog and cat. Is that a big problem or a little problem ?(I know it's a problem. lol)

You would think tourists would try to preserve the places they visit, but I guess they just don't think about it. When I was at Point Udall in February, I was joined by a family who seemed to be on the island for a golfing event. They took their clubs out of their cars and proceeded to hit golf balls into the water, trying to see how far they could get them to go, taking pictures, etc. I sat there and imagined piles of golfballs under the water... how is that any different from tossing trash out there? I'm still annoyed with myself for not saying anything to them.

Ahh, to be retired and not get bent out of shape over traffic! Can't wait! 🙂 Unfortunately, I have a long way to go.

OK, positives:

1. Everyone's a bit wacky (myself included.)
2. Nobody cares what kind of car you drive.
3. That snobby, country-club attitude doesn't exist in the main. There is that in a small sector but snobbery only works if others are trying hard to break into the snobby set & really, nobody seems to do that here.
4. Weather.
5. Beaches
6. Views. If you're stuck in rush hour traffic, it's not so bad sitting next to the harbor & sure beats the I-5.
7. Iguanas. I love them, others hate them.
8. Deer that swim in the ocean.
9. Small town feel.
10. Nobody cares who you were in your stateside life, just what you are now.
11. There's always great gossip. 😀
12. If there's a disaster, you will experience or see great acts of kindness.
13. Caribbean Christmases are the best in the world.
14. Little kids are the politest you'll find anywhere.
15. Small things make everyone really happy - like rain, after a dry spell.
16. After that rain, it smells like a botanical garden.
17. No poison ivy, oak or sumac.
18. You can see the stars at night.
19. Rainbows, rainbows, rainbows.
20. Everywhere you go, you run into people you know.
21. A wardrobe malfunction here means the strap on your flip-flop broke.
22. There's not much of a corporate ladder to climb, more like a stepstool, if that.
23. No yuppie dominance or culture.
24. Pates.
25. Mongoose. Did you see the front page picture yesterday of the mongoose sitting on the "Here B Mongoose" sign?

I saw on the multiple listings that Maureen O'Hara's house is on the market for 1,180,000. I think that is a great price for such a well built and beautiful home.
