Went to Christmas is Spoken Here at the Botanical Gardens today. It was sprinkling in the beginning, but the sky brightened up and it turned out to be a nice day. Of course, I bought a lot of little things I didn't need, but they are pretty. I'm also hooked on these pineapple and coconut pastries. The pastry booth is at the beginning of the food section and the baker seems quite famous--everyone was greeting her and picking up their goodies. I bought mine upon arrival, so as not to get shut out. I also tried a lobster kabob with barbecue sauce--really yummy. Oh gosh, see TRW, you got me started on this food jaunt.

The Christmas choirs were very good -- interesting arrangements of classics and new songs I hadn't heard before. I know that it is a casual atmosphere, but there was a group who talked through the whole performance and that just seemed rude to me. Anyway, the music was very nice.

My friend both the most beautiful plant, but it had really nasty spikes on the end. Her husband wasn't too happy about having to carry it to the car!

I also am starting to feel like a local. This year, unlike last year, I actually ran into several people who I know. I also ran into a guy who I met at Anna's cafe last week. He was an older gentleman, really sweet, and contemplating buying a piece of pie before his wife met up with him. I, of course, egged him on and told him to live it up and buy it. Unfortunately for him, his wife came back sooner than expected and really gave him the business about how he didn't need that pie (poor guy!).

Decorated a friends boat last night in Green Cay Marina. It was fun with the group of us. The eight strands for the green tree that reached up the main mast was making us bring them down because one light was loose on the plug. So after about three times we finally placed the many zip ties in the right places to hold it....You can see the star at the top of his mast and the trails of green going down from the entrance.

Got invited to Christmas with the group too so my plans are set.

I've been around. I think that since you stopped working at Zebo's we are on opposite schedules of being out and about in town. I'm not often there during the day. A life update? Just still working on getting my house situation dealt with. That's awfully slow going here, go figure. Also prepping for a trip with two of my sons for Xmas. Something great to look forward to as I haven't seen my oldest son since March.

From the description, I'm guessing you mean Mike Hall. Nice guy. He seemed to have the right attitude to be able to make island life work for him from the first trip he came down to explore.

Hello All,

(I need a place to vent, since my wife i working tonight!)

So I would like to think I am pretty computer savvy, I have fixed many a friends machine from virus and spy ware. I have Norton, use windows defender and ad aware, think I can see a threat and avoid it. I do download from "file sharing" sites, but have never been bitten.....until Monday night. My older son (he is 9) wanted some music for his iPod, I fired up lime wire found the 3 or 4 songs he wanted, found a live version of a Springsteen song I like (about the 100th live Springsteen song I like, LOL) downloaded, them ran Norton and tried to play the new Springsteen song (out in the streets) It asked to download a codec, now I should have known better, but I didn't. I spent 3 days trying to fix it and got fed up and wiped it clean last night! Now I am in the middle of downloading all the updates for XP and office.

Thanks for listening!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Mike

well my sponsor and i took an 82 yr old woman to Bolt, the disney film, lol it was great,i'd go see it again,i'm staying with my sponsor for a few days because the lonliness was starting to get too me,i'd go home to that empty of everything apt at night and start going crazy,i truly do hate the place, but anyway the we had butter pecan ice cream with the 82 year old,and she gave me a bag of murder books,we listed to the band playing at schooner bay for a while and came home.

so i went to a kind of bible study thing this am,there were 13 people there and i got introduced to everyone and sat there nervous as a cat waiting for the "killaqueerforchrist" stuff to start flowing, and while it did not flow, this particular group does not think the bible needs updating, lol you know for human rights issues, and that it is the word and needs to be followed,i guess i'm lucky and they only deal with the new testament,so alot of what they discussed is basically AA stuff, but theirs is jesus and AA's is "higher power,so it's all semantics, well that got over with and then we went to church, that was fun i saw loads of people i knew,no piano music, but they had a band thing and the band played modern music, like the stuff creed used to do when the lead singer thought he was jesus,so that was good and the sermon was
you know the virgin birth thing and what a great guy joseph was for sticking by mary and not having a fit for fooling around on him and then how they had to run for egypt to escape herod, all in all a good sermon,he used audio visual aids and then we all ate a cracker and did a shot, and there everyone does the shot at the same time and then there was more music and then we paid money, said our goodbyes and left, and yes i'm being flippant, although i'm not and never have been a christian,i've studied the big religions and i can follow along,i was impressed with the sense of community and for that reason alone i'd go back, and to be involved with some of the outreach programs they do with the homeless and at risk kids

Glad you had a place to stay, trw. Not a good time of year to be living in a place you hate but I hope once your place if finally completed it becomes a home for you.

So we have finally decided to come home mid January and mom is refusing to come with us so I am busy trying to set things up for her here to be taken care of here. I want to gag and tie her up and drag her to the island but I don't think I would get very far. She tells me very sternly that she is "my" mother. lol, I don't know what the world is coming to when you can't control your own parents.

JJ, hubby and I are craving the island like junkies. JJ has never stopped asking when he can go back to his island. We finally told him yesterday that we would go back after Christmas. For the first time he is really excited about Christmas and santa but when we told him we would go home after the holidays he said he didn't care about santa, he wants to go home now. That boy loves "his" island.

We are having one of those rare wonderful winter days where it is sunny and 70 degrees after a week of gray cold wet days. It is only supposed to last until this evening and then the rain and cold will return. I feel very grateful for the sun today.

Have a good day everyone.

Tam

Tammy,
I'm so glad that you are coming home soon. We haven't heard any JJ stories lately and we miss hearing how he is doing and what cute thing has he done lately! I'm sorry your mom is not coming with you--that's got to be tough. My parents aren't to that stage yet, but I can just imagine what you are going through. Our thoughts are with you. Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. Kim

Amen to that, Kim.

Got home from work very late last night (after dark.) Had left the sliding door open so the dog could go on the deck as I do every day & closed it when I got there. The pooch was acting strangely & diving under the bed & running around in guard dog mode (funny because she weighs 10 lbs.) I thought she was chasing a lizard. WRONG. A rat had come inside from the deck & was running all over the place trying to hide from the dog. I reopened the sliders after getting the broom & after the rat ran behind the bedroom door & raced around some more behind stuff & ONTO the bed & all around I think it finally left.

If any of you get a rat inside, make sure you get rid of them ASAP because it cost me a ton of money when one moved in & chewed the heck out of the innards of my dishwasher & washing machine. They get really destructive sharpening their teeth. This one was a big one, too. :-X
