Tax Time!

I received my refund in 2012 for 2011 income taxes. I received a 1099-INT from the VIBIR for the interest paid in 2012. That was the first time that I ever received a 1099 from the VIBIR for the interest that they paid me for sending me a late refund.

As I am doing my 2013 taxes, I noticed that I have not received a 1099-INT for the interest I received in 2013 for my 2012 tax year filing.

Has anyone else received or not received their 1099's from the VIBIR for interest paid in 2013?

Thanks

I have received a 1099 from them in the past for a late refund. I wish I could receive my refund check! Which will likely be followed by another 1099. I have see people open them in the post office and try and figure out what they are for. The laughs I get when I explain it to them 🙂

8 calls to the VIBIR STX today. Could not speak to a human once.
The 'press 0 for operator' does not work, and if you select any
extension you get a voicemail recording for EVERY extension.

Finally got a person. The VIBIR apparently did not send out 1099INT for the interest paid in 2012.
Of course, they said I could go there in person and they would tell me how much interest I got, and
I can use that to file.

Yeah, right.

The law clearly states that interest payers must send a 1099INT.

So once again, the VI Government loses tax revenue because of an inept operation.

It took us 2 years and 61 phone calls plus 4 registered letters to clear up an issue that the IRB caused with our 2011 tax filing.
We were so frustrated that I finally scheduled a meeting with the IRB Director Ms. Claudette Watson-Anderson. I told her during our meeting to fire everyone on my list that I tried to call and who never returned a call or pushed us onto someone else. She was very helpful.

After meeting with her and receiving her commitment to get the issue resolved, it only took 5.5 months to get it taken care of. Unbelievable......NOT!

Are you saying that the VI Government is poorly run? I think that there is something we can agree on possibly?
And they lose less revenue by withholding your interest payment than they they do by paying you interest and waking for you to pay taxes on it. Good luck in court. The judges here rule in the "government's" favor
