Vacations?

I was out with some old friends last night and we were discussing our upcoming move to STX. One of my buddies asked me a question which I could not answer. Maybe you can help me out. When living in the Virgin Islands, what do you do for vacation? Is there a place where you run away to in order to "get away"? Do you island hop? Do you head to the mainland? What are some of your getaways if you have them?

.

I go to PR. It is an island but it is large, has a great, safe nightlife in Condado SJU, shopping and great food. That is my vacation from VI. I have no desire to go to mainland US.

Anywhere a 'plane or a boat goes - just the same as living anywhere else! Aside from Europe and the US I've been to almost every island in the Caribbean as far south as the Netherlands Antilles and the Grenadines.

We make a couple of short vacation trips back to "cities" on the mainland to get our "fix of civilization". We take longer trips to Europe, South America and Asia. For example, last summer we did a River Cruise from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam in Holland. In February we are flying to Tahiti for a cruise through the South Pacific and next Fall we are doing a photo safari in Africa. Of course, we also visit other islands in the Caribbean.

The point being although living an island in the Caribbean may seem like a vacation to some (especially to people who don't Iive here) you do get the desire to "travel". So you travel to the same type of places other people like to visit.

I've been to the majority of islands in the Caribbean as well as Venezuela, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras and New Zealand. For me, I enjoy stateside visits with friends and family....and inexpensive shopping in FL when visiting.

Everywhere... EXCEPT the states lol! South Africa, Paris, Costa Rica, Portugal, Morocco and of course the close places down island and a bit further away with Caymans, Bahamas, Belize. Oh I have a loooog list of places to see. I only usually go where its warm. I HATE cold - I am wearing sweats right now... its 72. BRRRR! I hate the states. I get sick every time, too many people, too many choices which gives me anxiety and too much "mine is bigger than yours" and the air sucks. Over it. LOL but I'll tell you how I really feel later 😉

I'm retired and have already traveled extensively throughout the world that I've wanted to see. So when I leave the island it's to see my family stateside. Most of my friends leave on their vacations for that reason as well.

We've been there done that also.

Travel is almost like work anymore.

When we do go we can't wait to get back home (unlike when we lived in the states)!
