Its all going to come crashing down soon.

Doom and gloom..Doom and gloom

I don't think its all going to come crashing down. People on this board are so negative.

Yes its bad and it will probably get worse. But I see a place with beautiful people, beautiful scenery, and great culture all under the US Flag. Things will turn around.

Eventually, these crooked politicians will get phased out and some young blood with new ideas will step in.

What about that artilce about OTEC wanting to come here. What about the recent article I read about a company proposing to supply power to WAPA through biomass. What about the same article mentioning more solar farms and wind farms.

And yes to hemp. Yes to medical. Yes to recreational.

Bring on the recycling. Encourage more industries to setup shop here (medical, technology, renewable energy). GIve them lucrative tax breaks and free land.

Bring on the sailing industry. Look at what BVI has. STT is right next door and STX could do more to encourage more $ailors to visit.

And the big one: agriculture!!! Use the treated wastewater to supplement irrigation needs. Start a territory wide campaign to encourage farming. Develop a way to make agricultural products availble throughout the territory (Norma H, Seaplane, etc). Look at how we can export surpluses to BVI.

We live an amazing place. Maybe not everyone sees things in positive light but I can assure you, if you think negative then that's what you will see.

I plan on doing my part. Slowly but surely. In due time...

You must be new here!

But don't get me wrong, Matt T.

I own a very successful business here, have plenty of AirBNB guests staying in my extra space and own another home on the mainland.

I love it here and love the fact that there are so many ways to get around the government red tape. Everything is so antiquated and porous.

But the government and its semi-autonomous agencies are in for a YUGE awakening when the first bond payment is late.

And, when GERS fails, there will be strife unlike anything the island has seen before.

Tibbar? LOFL

Until the Gov unhooks from its rectal cranial inversion, you're not going to see real companies, with real balance sheets and real ability to get things done coming down to the VI

Instead you'll get clownshoes like Tibbar who promise the world but dont have the ability, funding or knowledge to deliver on those promises and a moronic legislature that doesn't know shite from shinola barking about how this is the next savior project for the VI

I'm sorry to say that while our islands are beautiful, what happens here is not. I've been waiting to for more positive changes as long as CruzianIron and it's disheartening to continue to see the decline. Our government has massive debt and it continues to mount.

Money continues to be frivolously, wasted, misspent, mismanaged, misappropriated. It's been going on for decades. The debt is not going to go away and it's compounded daily by the continuing poor decisions by our VI Government.

Look at all the government officials that have been convicted of crimes.
Then they resurrect themselves in another top job position?

Too many top paid administrators and senators that are unqualified for their positions. In our case, too much nepotism. Our basic services are jeopardized because they're poorly run and inadequate.

Can you imagine what our government pays in just interest rates on loans while they continue to raise rates and fees to keep our sinking ship afloat?

For all you "Johnny come latelys" (I use that word with no disrespect)
Life in the VI is not simpler. It's not all lazy beach days, rum and cokes and pina coladas. It is beautiful here but there a lot more involved so make your decisions wisely. Try to become part of the solution and vote!

Alana,

With all due respect, what are you hoping to accomplish with complaining about all this stuff? Does it make you feel better?

I think you would feel much better if you focused on the things you can control. WAPA? nope. VIGOV? Nope. Alana's state of mind? yep

Do you have a roof over your head? Did you eat today? Are you healthy? Do you have clean water to drink? If you said yes to all of those then the only thing left is companionship. So get out there and enjoy the day!

Cheers!

But does this affect you directly? I'm all for staying current with what's going on but lets face it, you nor I can do much to change it, except maybe through voting or trying to summon the masses to exact change.

Until then, enjoy life- its short!

No I think Tibbar is done. Article made it sound like something else. Biofuel is questionable. I just like hearing that there's people looking and thinking outside the box.

This.
My goodness governments everywhere waste money. Every state. County. City. WAPA is a joke though.. 2 years late on their propane conversion. This could a d should be run far more efficiently by a non semi autonomous government agency. I know this will shock some here, but I'm saying WAPA needs to be privatized. How many other companies/governmental agencies are not struggling with legacy costs? They almost crushed the Big 3. (Even though I think they used them as negotiating block against UAW for huge wage concessions). Do people honestly spend more than 20 minutes a day thinking or worrying about bond ratings? I surely don't. Maybe a new hobby is in order. Or any hobby. Or a rum.and coke. Something

Well I guess its like all news. People like gossip, dirt, etc. I don't know why?

Look at the VIconsortium. Any article that is something positive has very few if any comments. While the political or crime related ones have tons.

Not unique to the VI, it seems to be a US or maybe even a global thing. I am guilty of it too.

But I do try and make a concerted effort to realize its just not worth the mental energy of thinking on it for more than a few minutes.

Waterfalls, clear ocean water with colorful corals, lush tropical jungles, perfectly peeling waves, these are the things I like to spend my mental energy on.

Or even better, just enjoying the here and now. The past is history, the future is unknown the the present is a gift. Give thanks for life!

And I'm sure you feel great about burning your money too. Or giving it to the government to burn for you. And you won't complain one little bit when they increase your taxes so they have more money to burn. After all, you worked hard for it and don't mind giving it away.

Where, outside Galt's Gulch are you not paying taxes? You don't get to dictate how the government spends your money "This weeks deductions please use for refurbishing executive office.. k thanx"

Why would you consider focusing on my state of mind, which is honest and forthright, when you have made a decision not to focus on important issues that do and will continue to affect every single one of us at some point that live here. It's people like you that have not fought hard for changes, that throw comments out without consideration that make this board a minefield.

You don't know me nor my personal situation, nor you deserve to.
I'm sure you can say yes to your questions.
After decades of living here, I am entitled to my opinion.

I don't care about gold coins. I don't care about silver coins. My family has a roof over their heads. Food in their bellies. Health insurance. A beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. I have never worried once about how my tax money is spent. Wait, check that. I did when they sent young men to die for oil. Namaste

This is just too hard to resist given your last diatribe against me where you decided to air deliberately contrived misinformation presented as facts about my personal life when I dared to post an ironic opinion about your moving off island. You took "personal attack" to a whole new level.

MattT didn't attack you but simply (and very nicely and politely) made an observation about the continued negativity of your postings but your reaction is to leap up in self righteous indignation akin to Mr Trump's raving Tweets. You're certainly entitled to your opinions, as perpetually miserable as they are, but maybe you should follow the advice given in your last sentence.

millennial? Lolololololololol. You know it all don't ya? Why the bell would I worry about how my taxes are spent? It won't change. It never will. It is going to support either a bloated military if I'm stateside, or government subsidies here. That isn't going to change. Period. It's why I don't waste my precious time voting. It doesn't matter. If you ever need someone with mad pitchfork skills and his own lantern though, send me a PM.

Saddling the next generation with unsurmountable debt is unconsiable IMO. That's because you think there's only 2 choices. If people that are pissed about the direction of the country woul vote 3rd party, we'd have a chanc for change

We'll need more than pitch forks. Better pack up your .338 Lapua
