I posted this question on the Vacation Board..........and thinking now its a better question for the Relocation Board:
On our property, Flamingo Point Estate located on Lookout Point Road on Water Island, we have a Ft. Segarro Lookout Post . We are interested in restoring it to its original "glory". Does anyone know where I could acquire diagrams or the original specifications?

You ought to talk to Ronnie. He IS the "man in the know" for historical information. Except for the steel bridge in the harbor that Isaac Dookhan describes in his book... Ronnie doesn't believe in it! 😉

Ed, thanks. I've poked around .gov web sites and haven't come up with information. It sounds like I will have to resort to the old fashion way of writing a letter and sending to Dept. Interior via USPS. My brother-in-law recently retired but as a civilian working for a topographical (?) or some kind of mapping dept in a govt entity in DC checked for us a year ago and said it was still classified info. Go figure. Maybe its just info that no one had gotten around to de-classifying yet. Who knows. But, we're definitely interested in restoring our lookout post. Its still got camo paint (very much faded but still visible) and its lost its roof. Thought it would be cool to restore it. Its a great place to look around and see the cliffs/south face of WI, Buck Island, Havensite, etc. And, well, its just a cool thing.

You might also check with the Enid Baa library for history and current status. The library has gone a long way in recent years with financial input from the Danish government in microfiching and general historical data conservation.

The VI is just a tiny annoyance at times where the Federal government is concerned and writing letters generally will get you nowhere. Make some telephone overtures to the Enid Baa library, get to know to whom you're talking and then go present yourself personally on your next sortie here.

Need I say that I toadally applaud your aim? Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I'll try the library. By the way, where's the library situated? Is it on / near Back Street?

Enid Baa fronts on Main Street, has a back entrance through Back Street, down toward Market Square. But do contact Ronnie, too!

East Ender, that's exactly where Ithought it was. I've just never been in there. I've sent Ronnie a PM. Thanks again!

For the tenth time EE, that was a floating dock that he may have mistaken for a bridge! It looks like a bridge.

I will help Fl Barrier when I return from Copenhagen in a few.

Yes, Ronnie, but Isaac Dookhan says it was a "beautiful steel bridge over 300 feet long which a
Liverpool company had constructed with steel pillars screwed down in the rock foundation of the harbor" and that's his story and I'm sticking to it! I don't think Dr Dookhan ever saw it.

Copenhagen is kinda cold this time of year, isn't it? 😉

Yes, very cold. I just spent 4 hours at the library and archives looking at post cards and photos from late 1800s to mid 1940s and never did I see a bridge! Even a picture of that floating dock when it sank!

Ronnie: Of course there are no photos. It was destroyed in 1867, before Royal Caribbean was selling cameras!! LOL

Hurry back.

On my way back. In Chicago right now, heading to NC. Will be home Friday. I do have a book that shows harbor happenings from the beginning and I will enlighten you when I return.
