hey guys "we did it". we did move from atl and it did not cost a fortune like we had expected to pay, we are now on island almost 2 months and we are just loving it, i now feel like a crucian , i shipped with tropical a 40' container that they dropped for me at our home , the driver was nice enough to leave the container for us over night and didn't pick it up until that very next evening, we were so happy we did not have that 2 hour window [loading time] to look through .we flew with spirit all the way to stx and then took the sea plane to st.croix, when on island we stayed at the buccaneer hotel for a week waiting for the container to get here .one thing i find is the mongoose on this island is a little too brazen for my taste , if you leave any kind of food unattended even if you are close by they will go in it. how ever we are now settled in somewhat,my 3 children is just loving it and not to mention my critters, they are just besides themselves, i got my children in at ricardo richards [public school] and they are just loving it .i took a look at the curriculum and every thing. we got a lovely 3 bdrm 2nd floor home near the school.i adopted all over again to driving on the left again. i am now shipping my truck with tropical, which i find very economical.we paid around $7,800 roughly to move both 40'container and ford explorer. to us that is a steal.i am now looking about my bussiness license, we rented a store on castle coakley to sell gifts and novelties.oh'oh' how could i forget our tickets costs $1,700.00 in all, for all of us including our critters. i will not say never but i do not see myself living off island again. i do not miss driving 20mins to the closest store or fighting traffic for 2 hrs to go to work i'm cool here its "cool runnings" for me i am enjoying this. so for people out there who want to take the plunge , i would say go for it . with a lot of research and planning you can do it . good luck to the ones who are thinking about it. i also have my doggie bags if someone is moving pets under 10 lbs you can have them for free, its 3 of them my dogs were weighing in @10 and 11 lbs each.

Hi barbie:

I am making the "big move" September 08. I have been doing a ton of research and my biggest concern is bringing my min pin with me to begin with. I am planning on staying in a motel during my search for a place to reside. It sounds like you did that as well, waiting for your stuff to arrive. So, the Buccaneer allowed you to have your dogs?

hi vakshnr, the buccaneer does not allow dogs, sorry , my husband is from here so we had family members keep them. but there are a few places that will accomodate dogs of course. try and have somebody look out for a place in the mean while, it's not too early to start looking ,for a place to live don't wait, we started paying for our place 4 mths in advance ,just to be sure .good luck with your move.
