Had a wreck (not our fault) in the 1st 3 days we were there. Ouch. I can understand it perfectly...there are absolute nuts for drivers there!

Lack of competition, and if you want comprehensive they figure the VIs are both an earthquake and a hurricane zone.

I really don't think the rates are too bad. I got my renewal in the mail today. Liability costs $343 per car per year. Conprehensive is another $285 per car per year. I use Executive Insurance and the insurance is thru Lloyds of London. I'm on STX. We drive a lot slower here because the roads are so damn bad.

Moving here insurance was a lot cheaper for us, especially for me. They don’t take in to consideration tickets from the states, they only check the VI so we both had clean records! I have the exact same insurance as Ric (thank you Ric for the referral) and so far feel like we’re getting a good deal. But like Ric said we do drive slower (ok well maybe I drive fast sometimes you know to get air so I can just jump those enormous pot holes.)

Saying $300 more than you are paying does not make it relative. I had a friend once that lived in Miami and registered her car in Palm Beach county to save over $1000. It's where you live in some states that determines your rate. Here it's all the same for everybody. I pay over $2200 for 2 cars! So, how much is yours?

It is cheaper then N.Y. I pay $235 for a 1990 Jeep. When I left N.Y. 15 years ago i was paying $1800 for an 81 toyota pick up?

i pay now 1300.00, for st. john its 1759.00 for a jeep grand cherokee. it just seems high since the liabilty and medical amounts are lower then what i have now.

All well and good. You misunderstood the statement I guess. Are you in NY City like Jimbo, or the middle of Iowa? It really matters. It varies from state to state and who knows? island to island? Full coverage on your vehicle costs that much around here. You can just have liabilty for about $300.

kelly: You need to check to see if you will be able to ship a leased car. I think you have to have the title or some sort of release from the title holder.
