Well gang, I'm tired of putting my salt in a plastic bag only to have to unseal it each time it's salting time, or take it out of the fridge.

I'd like to have a USEABLE WORKING salt shaker, like you pick up and get some salt out to add to something on the stove or to prepared food.

Any body tell me how that's possible AND don't forget to tell me WHERE to get said salt shaker!!!!!

Thanks.

Hey Paul -

There is a lady in Tillet Garden (store back in the corner) that makes a really neat ceramic salt shaker that absorbs moisture and lets you get dry salt out. I have one, and I've bought a few for gifts. Or, you can put rice in your shaker.

I found "No Clog" Salt & Pepper Shakers at www.wdrake.com
They're $8.89. They keep the salt dry.

There's a very simple solution to this that is foolproof (works better than rice in the shaker). For years we been using crystalized Sea Salt and a Salt Mill (similar to a pepper grinder) at our Caribbean Villa and we never worry about clogged salt shakers. They are inexpensive, the salt is readily available and they last for years. I can't understand why they are not "de rigueur" for people living in the tropics.

We use sea salt in a "grinder" here in Atlanta. Not for any other reason, except that we like it better. My vote is for sea salt. Besides, rice swells up and looks fuzzy.

We tried the salt mill with sea salt and it still absorbed mositure. When you grind it the water comes out and salt comes out in lumps. We keep it in the fridge for better success. Rice works.

Those snap-top lids or "no clog" shakers work. They really do. www.wdrake.com does ship to USVI according to their website. "Do you ship overseas? .....We do ship to Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Possessions, territories and APO/FPO addresses (destinations with USPS Zip Codes). "

at the bar i work at here, that happens on our patio tables. we use busted up saltine crackers, they work a little better than rice if it gets really really humid...
