We are making plans to fly back to the states at the end of June this year with our three dogs and are looking to share a charter flight with others. If anyone is interested or wanting to get more information here is the website www.airpropel.com. You can contact them for specifics.

The more people booked for the flight will cause the prices to go down quite a bit. I know there are others already signed up for June but wanting to extend the info to others if they are interested.

Can you give an idea of what would be the final cost depending on how many folks join your flight?

I was told $3750 with 4 confirmed groups. I don't know the costs of three or less groups because Im hoping for the 4 groups. But if you send them an email they can give you the full price layout.

Also, if not mistaken, Airpropel requires like a 6 week window of opportunity. So you have to be flexible with your schedule in order to get the best price or group rate.

That sounds reasonable as we paid $2000 to Mike Foster at Coastal Air to fly us and 3 dogs to Bequia from STX in 2006.
Then we paid a little less to bring us back to STX in 2009 as he was coming to pick us up from Dominica. .

We are headed back to the States soon and would consider your offer but we are not quite ready. We will have to stay here until the fall if we sell our place cause the pooches can't fly until the temps drop. Bummer!

I am not sure on the amount of people or pets allowed. And with airpropel the temperature is not a factor since you'll be boarding with the pets as opposed to them having to wait in a holding area.

No date yet. Its based on all the groups consensus of a date.

We looked int Airpropel when we left a few months ago, but it didn't work because our four groups with pets and luggage wound up being too large for the plane they quoted us and they wanted to put us all into a larger plane at significantly more $$$. We backed out because we primarily have cats and decided to go commercial and fly AA, even though it was more of a headache. But we couldn't justify the expense.

Just a heads up you might want to check on how much actual space you get on the plane they are quoting you vs. just saying "four groups." AirPropel of course wants to drive business and get people on their planes, and our experience was that they were a bit vague until it came time to actually commit money, and then suddenly we all needed a larger plane and the price about doubled for us. People, large dogs, luggage, fill up a plane quickly.

I agree Julie, because I believe there are only like 8 people per flight with two pets each group maximum. I know when I checked into Airpropel last year for my wife and I and our two birds, the average cost to us would have been about $4000.00 give or take a few bucks and that was if all seats were filled. It wasn't the money so much as the fact that it was close to 8 times the cost for one way tickets for us and our birds versus commercial airline and I would have still been required to have health certificates for the birds as well as exoctic animal import permits from the Ag center before the birds would have been allowed on St. Thomas. I'm scratching my head still trying to understand why in the hell they require import permits when we are coming from the states and the US owns the VI. It's like going from one state to the other.

We don't yet have Bird Flu viruses in the VI so maybe that's one reason.

Yes, and if all the seats aren't filled for which there is no guarantee, the cost is much higher. Checked into it also and will likely go the commercial route as IT IS ABOUT THE MONEY. If it weren't, than I think all of us would opt for the charter route.

We chartered with Mike Foster a few years ago when we moved to Bequia and it was great and the only way we could get there with 3 dogs. When we sold our place there and moved to STX, we summoned his services again.

A good friend of mine had a horrible set of experiences with Airpropel trying to fly from St. Croix. Cancelled original flight with plane stuck in Florida waiting for parts. Then told to fly pets and herself to St. Thomas to meet a different plane. Once there, that flight was cancelled and she had to board 3 dogs for a couple days plus hotel for herself.

In the end, after major delays, rise in fares, she cancelled her plans and flew with another charter. Last I heard from her, she was battling to get back her money from Airpropel. Buyer beware and have a backup plan!!

Here is the quote we received.

$15,525. Aircraft and schedule all to yourself

$7,762.50 Two groups share cost must agree on day/time

$5,175.00 Three groups share

$3,881.25 four groups share

$3,105.00 five groups share

That's about the same quote we received, gonetropo, but then when it came time for everyone to commit (four groups) we were told that the plane was too small and we would have to pay for a space on a larger one. We bailed at that point - fortunately we hadn't signed anything yet.

Yes, the next plane larger is ALOT more money. That is what concerns us.
